Janet Cardiff’s work combines sound, movement and the environment. Based in Grindrod, British Columbia, she lives and works with her long term collaborator George Bures Miller, with whom she makes immersive multimedia works including audio walks, installations and art objects.

Cardiff and Miller have had numerous solo shows at international venues including ARoS Aarhus Art Museum; Vancouver Art Gallery; Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; Hamburger Banhoff, Berlin; Modern Art Oxford; Miami Art Museum; Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona; and Mathildenhöhe, Darmstatdt. Their work has also been included in recent group exhibitions and biennales such as the 19th Biennale of Sydney in 2014 and dOCUMENTA (13) and is currently included in the Istanbul Biennial. Representing Canada at the 2001 Venice Biennale, the artists received the Biennale's Premio Prize and Benesse Prize. Cardiff’s first major work in this country was her Artangel commission, The Missing Voice, an audio walk through Brick Lane, still available from the Whitechapel Art Gallery.
